Fauziya Ali, President of Women in International Security (WIIS) Horn of Africa (HoA), is a distinguished scholar and practitioner deeply committed to advancing gender-inclusive approaches in peace and security efforts across the Horn of Africa region.

Drawing upon her background and practical experience in governance, peacebuilding, and security, Fauziya has led transformative initiatives spanning East Africa, West Africa (including Nigeria and Mali), North Africa (Egypt), and the Indo-Pacific (Maldives), among other regions. Notable among her roles is her tenure as deputy chief of party for Somalia's largest stabilization program supported by USAID and her significant contribution to Kenya's inaugural African Peer Review Mechanism under the African Union- NEPAD.

Within the United Nations system, Fauziya has played a pivotal role in spearheading project aimed at preventing violent extremism, including the groundbreaking "Journey to Extremism" report and the pioneering development of the first CVE mobile application designed to empower communities in countering extremist narratives.

In addition to her leadership within WIIS-HoA, Fauziya chairs a prominent network of women peace builders spanning six countries. She has contributed as an inaugural steering committee member of the Paris Peace Forum (2019-2022) and served as an evaluator for the Larsen Lam Iconiq Impact Awards under the MacArthur Foundation (2020-2021). She is a Yale world fellow (2018) and lectures a capstone class at the School for Global Affairs (2020-2021 and 2024-2025)

Fauziya's academic rigor and dedication to gender-inclusive approaches have garnered widespread recognition, including being named a "Leading Woman" in 2018 by News Deeply and a "Woman to Watch" in 2019 by Voice of America (VoA). Her outstanding contributions have been honored with prestigious awards such as the 2023 Tana Security Forum Award, the SERAS Award for Africa, and the UN SDG Pioneer Award, among others.
