Maya Berkowitz (she/her) is Borealis Philanthropy’s Director of Development. She brings her love of fundraising, passion for human rights and commitment to building resilient movements for justices to her work at Borealis Philanthropy. She has been at Borealis since 2019 leading the organization's fundraising efforts. She also previously led communications at Borealis, supporting the organizations and our partners narrative change goals. Maya approaches her work as a resource mobilizer supporting movement ecosystems grounded in community organizing principles and with a commitment to centering relationships, creativity, and connection.

Prior to joining Borealis, Maya worked for several social justice advocacy organizations, leading both traditional and grassroots fundraising programs designed to build and sustain powerful movements for human rights. Before discovering her passion for fundraising, Maya worked in healthcare administration and process improvement and got her master’s in public health at the University of Washington. She grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and spent more than a decade in Seattle, WA before returning to her midwestern roots in 2023.
